January 2013 Update
By Dennis Spencer | HANDS AROUND THE WORLD link volunteer
We were just two volunteers returning to Muko School in October 2012, but by employing up to 28 local men and women in the three weeks that we spent there, we managed to carry out a lot of essential maintenance work.
Much progress has been made on the Nursery with the children having a new block of three classrooms including a dormitory and even a small playground to themselves.
Work is hot, arduous and slow at the school, which incidentally was hit by some of the worst flooding ever seen in this area just before our arrival this year.
We are slowly seeing some improvements but more help is needed is continue with this project - not only with the maintenance work but also with the teaching of English so that the students may have a better chance of a career later in life.

October 2012 Update
By Dennis Spencer | HANDS AROUND THE WORLD Muko volunteer
Izzy and I will be returning to Rwanda this coming November to continue the work on the School.
We will once again as in past visits be employing local labourers to assist in the plastering and painting of four classrooms and also the Nursery. Further work is required on the toilets, there are also roofs that need repair work to keep out the rain, windows to repair and footpaths required in order that the School pupils do not have to walk from class to class in mud and stones.
It is hoped that during this visit discussions can be made about a team of English language teachers visiting next year.
Plans are also going ahead for the maintenance work programme for 2014 that is necessary to keep the School up an acceptable level. It is also possible that a complete new block of classrooms may be considered.
This is a long term project which needs ongoing funding and we wish to thank all those that have contributed funds to date. All the money that it received goes to the School as the volunteers pay their own expenses.
We will report in more detail on our return before Christmas.

July 2012 Update
By Dennis Spencer | HANDS AROUND THE WORLD volunteer
It is still early days, but with the help of charitable donations and grants a total of another four classrooms have been built in the last year, this along with the installation of some computers has made further improvements to the School. It is hoped that this IT will assist the limited number of teachers in this School with its over 2400 students.
Further funding is still needed to support volunteers who will be returning this coming October. They will work with local labourers in order to carry out more maintenance and painting in the existing classrooms and buildings, which was much appreciated by both locals and even government officials last year.
Further planning is under way to send a team of teachers over in 2013 and hopefully a group of teenagers will also be making a visit in the future.
Thank you for supporting this project so far!
