The risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have created an emergency situation facing homeless veterans in Pittsburgh. Veterans Place, devoted to the health and well-being of one of our city's most vulnerable populations, has KEPT ITS DOORS OPEN. At a time when many other homeless veterans' support services have closed the Veterans Place, founded in Pittsburgh in 1996, is a shelter from the COVID-19 storm.
Veterans Place has remained fully operational during the Coronavirus pandemic. Not only do we continue to provide services to our 48 Veterans that live on-site, but we also continue to pick up veterans from shelters and encampments and transport them back to Veterans Place for hot breakfast, lunch, laundry and shower services, as well as support services and case management. Veterans Place is still serving veterans face to face (while respecting social distancing and wearing PPE
Adequate staffing and the costs associated with PPE has been a necessary obstacle that Veterans Place has had to navigate. While Veterans Place continues to seek operational funds to keep the doors open, we continue to serve our Veterans and move forward by any means necessary
With the help of our donor community, Veterans Place can continue to serve our homeless and at-risk veterans. Our van continues to pick up homeless veterans from shelters and the streets every single day to bring them to our campus on Washington Blvd. for a hot meal. Veterans should be safe. Veterans Place staff continues to provide for basic human needs - food, shelter and clothing - with open arms and hearts.
