The crisis in the Middle East has created an unprecedented problem with poor women more severe than during the Covid-19 pandemic. With the skyrocketing prices in fuel, food and fertilizer, and with the crisis predicted to last for so long, food-security is at stake and unimaginable poverty and malnutrition will happen. This project will provide much-needed food and small livelihood support to poor and vulnerable women and girls.
The current crisis in the Middle East although very far away is affecting in the most negative way poor, resource-poor women and their families. Transport cost is sky-high, farm inputs is very expensive which results to low production, hunger and malnutrition. Food scarcity is happening. There is a need to support poor women so that they are able to prevent hunger and malnutrition.
We will provide much-needed seeds of high-valued vegetables, root crops and bananas so that farmers can grow their own food in an abundant manner. We will also provide organic fertilizer and teach them how to formulate their own. In this way, they are able to feed their own families and not rely on outside sources which may be disrupted because of the crisis.
The potential long-term impact of the project is the prevention of hunger and malnutrition and ensuring food-secure local communities despite the crisis in the Middle East. Healthy communities means that villagers are able to grow healthy and well and contribute to their own well-being.
