From Shelters to Classrooms: Your Impact in Kachin

Due to fighting and flooding in Kachin, our partner school in Wai Maw has relocated to a new home.  You can now find the Myusha Jawng community school up and running  about an hour away in Long Khin village IDP (refugee) camp in some newly built, homegrown classrooms.

“I have really enjoyed reading with my students here at the IDP camp. The Tekkatho library has various kinds of resources. We can read a lot of storybooks,” a primary teacher shared with us.

The photo above shows Wai Maw students diving into English language resources from the British Council to research, discuss, and present on topics of their choice. This group explored the incredible story of Brazilian football legend Pelé!

These interactive eTekkatho activities help students boost their English skills, sharpen presentation abilities, and build teamwork and leadership. ‍

“It is always a pleasure to be able to discuss in a way that really supports leadership skills,” said Ting Wang, one of the students. “The students enjoyed using the resources because of the opportunity to learn despite the challenges of temporary life in plastic shelters in the IDP camp,” one of his teachers added.

Your donations make these learning opportunities possible, even in the most challenging circumstances. Please continue to support our work to bring education and hope to young people across Myanmar.
