Tekkatho's Emergency Response in Myanmar

On 28 March, a powerful earthquake hit central Myanmar, affecting over 6 million people. Through our local network, Tekkatho has been able to respond quickly, providing emergency cash, food, clean water, shelter, and hygiene support in some of the hardest-hit areas.

The epicentre was in Sagaing, a conflict-affected region where we already have strong partnerships. In Mingun, we're supporting over 260 displaced families. In Sagaing city, we're working with an incredible group of nuns to distribute essential kits: pots, mosquito nets, blankets, utensils, rice, noodles and fresh food.

One father, who lost his wife and daughter in the quake, told us:

“We had nothing left and nothing to cook. This package is precious. And you know Sagaing is famous mosquitoes heaven, and we have nothing to cover us, so every night, we were a meal for mosquitoes tribes. Thank you so, so much such a kit. Now we can survive.”

Our HQ in Mandalay was destroyed, and with it, our small stock of learning kits. Thankfully our team is safe and now, with your support, we will focus on rebuilding: replacing vital equipment and getting classrooms and libraries up and running again, so children and young people in rural Myanmar can keep learning, no matter where they are.
