Dear Hens Hatching Hope Supporter:
I was recently in Honduras, and was so very pleased to visit our Nutrition program. As we have reported in the past, when mothers bring their 6 to 24 month old children to the local health center for their monthly weight and height check up, they receive a coupon for 60 free eggs. They take the coupon to the local woman-run hen farm, and receive their free eggs.
Everyone is happy --
Mothers: because they can provide healthy eggs for their family
Children: because they have better health due to eating more protein
Medical Providers: because the see the children on a monthly basis, and can catch problems early
Hen Farms: because StS pays them monthly for the eggs they provide
But, there is ANOTHER benefit from Hens Hatching Hope -- this is NUTRITION EDUCATION.
As you can see in the lead photo, our StS staff and local Health Promoters provide monthly programs on nutrition and child development. The mothers do not receive this information anywhere else, so our educational programs fill an important role in the health and development of the 200 families in the program.
We are seeing better nutrition in Intibuca thanks to our generous supporters!
