Dear Nutrition Supporter:
Shoulder to Shoulder was so thrilled that Dr. Ana Palacios was able to travel to Honduras in March 2025 to visit our Hens Hatching Hope Project. Dr. Palacios has been involved with Shoulder to Shoulder's nutrition programs for the past ten years and has made trips to Honduras. She has also been involved in the planning and implemenation of our Hens project since its inception in 2021, but this was the first time she has been able to come and actually visit the women who raise the hens and the women whose children receive the eggs.
I was so thrilled that I was able to join the brigade. The team consisted of Dr. Palacios, two university students, a Spanish teacher from Georgia, and three members of my family. The focus of the trip was CLEAN WATER. The group visited over 20 homes, plus schools, and health centers. They tested the water that was being consumed, and showed whether or not the water was contaminated.
In addition, they taught more than 100 people how to purify their drinking water by adding 2 drops of clorox to each liter of water. Initially, participants felt that adding clorox to water would give it "a bad taste." However, each participant was provided the opportunity to drink the purified water, and all reported that it had no bad taste at all.
Participants were given a plastic bucket with a tap; a plastic dropper to measure the "2 drops per liter of water"; and a container of clorox.
The photos below shows the team enjoying their work, and their leisure, on the Nutrition & Clean Water Brigade.
