The project will support 500 women and girls in Cameroon, facing financial hardship, food insecurity, stress and uncertainty which creates conditions for an increase in consequences such as abuse, sexual and gender-based violence in homes and communities and in transactional sex - which can lead to an increase in sexually transmitted infections including HIV, unintended pregnancies among adolescent girls, serious health problems and devastating emotional issues due to stigma and discrimination.
There are 35 million girls not attending school in the world's poorest regions and there are still far too many who are not completing their education. Though poverty affects both genders, women and girls are particularly at-risk of gender-based violence. Many adolescent girls also end their education early when they don't have access to a school bathroom or sanitary napkins. Poor Medical Care and Access to Health Information causes women to suffer from illness and disease in poor communities.
