In the remote village of Tumcha, Sarkegad Rural Municipality in Humla, access to quality healthcare is a daily challenge. Yet through the continued support of PHASE Nepal and our generous donors, women are receiving life-changing services even in the most isolated locations.
One such case is that of 29-year-old Hira Budha ( name changed) , a resident of Jair, Humla, who visited our health post after experiencing persistent lower abdominal pain for three days, accompanied by mild fever, painful urination, discomfort during sexual activity, and abnormal vaginal discharge.
Our trained health workers assessed her symptoms and diagnosed her with Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)—a common but serious reproductive health condition if left untreated. Hira was immediately provided with a full course of antibiotics and pain management medication as per PHASE medical protocols. Alongside the treatment, she was counseled on maintaining proper personal and intimate hygiene and was advised to bring her husband for partner treatment to prevent reinfection. Until then, she was encouraged to use condoms during intercourse.
Two weeks later, Hira returned with a bright smile, reporting complete relief from her symptoms. Her words reflect the deeper impact of this intervention:
“The medicines cured me. Thank you for supporting me to get over this problem. I had this issue for quite a long time but couldn’t share it. I am glad PHASE sisters were here. I was able to open up to you—I feel comfortable sharing with the sisters.”
This case highlights the importance of accessible and sensitive healthcare services for women in remote areas. Hira's successful treatment is not just a clinical victory but a step forward in building trust and promoting open communication about women’s health.
Thanks to your continued support, stories like Hira's are becoming more common, empowering women to seek timely treatment and live healthier lives.
