This project will install condom banks and run HIV education events across 10 Nigerian university campuses. Nigeria has one of the highest HIV infection rates among youth in Africa, with limited access to prevention tools on campuses. Many students lack information and fear stigma when seeking condoms. The project will provide safe, free access to condoms and run peer-led sessions to increase awareness and reduce HIV transmission among students.
University students in Nigeria face rising HIV risk due to low condom use and limited access to accurate information. On many campuses, stigma around condom use discourages safe sex. Access to free protection and youth-friendly education is poor or non-existent. Many students are exposed to risk without the knowledge or means to protect themselves.
This project will install discreet condom banks in safe campus locations and run peer-led HIV awareness sessions. Students will have free, anonymous access to condoms and reliable HIV prevention information. Trained peer educators will lead open discussions to increase knowledge, encourage safer choices, and reduce fear or misinformation around condom use.
Students who are informed and have access to protection are less likely to contract HIV or spread it. Condom banks and peer education help create safer campus spaces where health risks are reduced. As awareness grows, demand for safe sex tools will increase, and stigma will decline. This effort can serve as a model for more institutions across the country.
