Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have already supported the HIV Awareness & Condom Banks on Nigerian Campuses project. Your contributions show concern for the health of young people. However, the donations received so far are not sufficient to fully implement activities across the selected campuses. Additional support is still needed.
University students in Nigeria face increasing exposure to HIV due to low condom use, limited access to prevention tools, and misinformation about transmission. On many campuses, students struggle to access free protection. Fear of stigma discourages some from purchasing condoms openly. In certain institutions, youth-friendly HIV education is either limited or absent.
Without accurate information and accessible protection, students may engage in risky behavior without understanding the consequences. This places them at risk of infection and contributes to continued transmission within the youth population.
This project will install discreet condom banks in safe and accessible campus locations across ten universities. Students will have free and anonymous access to condoms. In addition, trained peer educators will conduct HIV awareness sessions, offering factual information about prevention, testing, and responsible decision-making. Open discussions will help reduce fear, correct misinformation, and encourage healthier choices.
Improving access to prevention tools and education can reduce new HIV infections among students. As knowledge increases and stigma decreases, more students may adopt safer practices. The project can also encourage campus communities to take active roles in promoting responsible health behavior.
We are grateful for the support received so far, but further funding is required to expand installations and conduct educational sessions as planned. We kindly invite more donors to help strengthen HIV prevention efforts among university students.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
