This project helps us assist in the support of Cuban patients who are dealing with HIV in their lives. It is focused on an array of people, including men, women, and families. This project does not aim to provide the HIV drugs needed to treat these patients. However, our goal is to provide the medications needed to deal with all of the side effects of the disease, as well as support in nutritional needs of the patients.
HIV patients near Havana who may need extra assistance with nutrition: our goal will be to either provide the food to them or give them the funds needed to purchase extra foods as well as to provide this group with the medicines that they might need to supplement the medicines that they are already receiving from Cuba (until these additional medicines become more readily available).
First, we will identify the group and determine what medicines they might need, with a special focus on families with children (although we will assist the entire group). These meds for this group will be placed in the care of a physician and will then be made available to the identified group of patients. Food or funds for food will be distributed by identifying members who are at the most risk for lack of nutrition and inability to get the support medicines needed.
Hopefully, with the combined assistance of our team, the group members' continued use of HIV-specific medicines that Cuba provides free of charge, and improved nutrition this group will continue to live healthy lives and be able to raise their children in a healthy environment until Cuba fully recovers from the Covid pandemic.
