Adolescents and Young People (AYP) in Ajegunle Ghetto Slum, Nigeria lack access to comprehensive HIV Prevention services, treatment and care despite socio-sexual networks and dynamics among the teaming population. This project is aimed at setting up an Adolescents and Youth Friendly Service Delivery Center (SDC) to bridge the gap and also create demand and promote services uptake for adolescents and young people to reduce the incidence of HIV among them in Ajegunle (Ghetto) City, Nigeria.
Prevention remains an essential part of Nigeria's HIV response and for a city as Ajegunle termed the mini-Nigeria. The recurrent issues of low access and uptake of HCT services by Adolescents, growing concerns around Multiple sexual partnership, gender-based violence, poor Adolescents and Young People (AYP) Friendly services etc. has combined to hinder access and utilization of appropriate HIV prevention services by AYP. This has created the need for SoHAI to set up Youth Friendly Service Point.
The SMART for AYP project will contribute to the reduction of new HIV infections among adolescents and young people (AYP) by increasing their access to gender responsive, HIV prevention information and services in Ajegunle City.
Over 20,000 adolescents and young people living in the ghetto (Ajegunle City) in Nigeria will improve their response to HIV/AIDS and related issues and also lead healthy and positive life style as role model to end AIDS in their Society.
