USAID funding cuts have disrupted HIV/AIDS services in Nigeria, leaving vulnerable LGBTIQ+ individuals struggling to afford ARV refills due to new consultation fees, stigma, and periodic drug shortages. Empower Future Initiative will support 200 individuals with treatment access, remove financial barriers, and strengthen advocacy for inclusive healthcare. Your support will prevent treatment interruption and save lives amongst the LGBTQ+ community.
Recent global funding reductions have weakened HIV/AIDS programs across Nigeria, especially for key populations. Many LGBTIQ+ individuals living with HIV now face consultation fees for ARV refills, stigma in public hospitals, and occasional drug stock-outs. Treatment interruptions increase viral load, drug resistance, and transmission risk. Without urgent local intervention, vulnerable individuals may be forced to abandon life-saving medication.
Empower Future Initiative will cover consultation fees and emergency ARV refill support for 200 LGBTIQ+ individuals over nine months. We will partner with friendly healthcare providers, provide treatment adherence counseling, and document discrimination cases for advocacy. Community outreach and stakeholder engagement will reduce stigma and improve coordination to address supply gaps.
This project will improve medication adherence, reduce HIV-related complications, and prevent new infections among the LGBTIQ populations. By combining direct support with advocacy, it strengthens inclusive healthcare systems and promotes dignity in service delivery. Over time, it will build sustainable community-led structures that ensure equitable access to HIV treatment regardless of identity.
