We believe that children must remain children despite their illnesses. Celebrating milestones, like having a joyous holiday dinner should always go on in some form, despite obstacles. These events brighten the days of children who are suffering and raise the spirits of their families. Your gift will help us provide holiday dinners and celebrations for families in need, while their child is in cancer treatment. 300 children with cancer will celebrate the season with peace, tranquility and dignity
Chile is an extremely centralized country where most pediatric oncological units are located in Santiago, the capital city. 60% of children with cancer of the country must relocate to Santiago to receive treatment, which usually lasts up to 1 year. Children who relocate in the city too often leave behind the love and support of family and friends while undergoing aggressive cancer treatment. Too often cancer takes away a child's possibility of being a happy child.
We provide housing, food and safe transportation -among many other services- to families in need during and after the period of the illness. During the holidays we support families which are far from home and which because of the financial impact of having a child with cancer, can't afford to have a holiday celebration. With this project we seek to provide holiday meals and festivities for Chilean pediatric cancer patients, who are separated from family and loved ones over the holidays.
This project will give 300 Chilean children with cancer and their families a break in this especially difficult year; it also gives them the possibility of embracing the holiday spirit. A season celebration is an opportunity for these families to strengthen an emotional bond during this period of illness. Having beautiful memories within so much pain allows the family group to develop resilience tools, crucial to overcome these extremely hard times.
