What are your family traditions? In December, we kept traditions alive by providing Christmas cheer for Korean children, something we have been doing since 2004. One of our favorite traditions at the KKOOM Holiday parties is the gingerbread house competition. Check out this Instagram reel to see the beautiful masterpieces the children created on Christmas Eve! We started this tradition in 2019. Every year, the gingerbread houses become more elaborate and intricate with their creativity and imagination.
One of the high school girls told us after the KKOOM holiday activities, “We will be dreaming about this party tonight. Thank you for my gift. Please choose my house for first place in the gingerbread house competition!”
Providing Christmas gifts for the children gives them something to look forward to every year. We ask each child what they want on their wish list. We are always able to fulfill these wishes thanks to your radical generosity. This year, we increased our impact during the holiday season. We provided gifts, activities, and Christmas meals for 243 children at five children’s homes. The holidays can be difficult for the vulnerable children we serve, but you provide stability, safety, but most of all, unconditional love.
Another tradition we started with a KKOOM-supported children’s home is an annual talent show. The first one was in December 2019 and we hosted our second annual talent show in December 2022. The children practice for several weeks to months preparing special performances to showcase their talents. Here’s a video of the performances! We asked the KKOOM community on social media to vote for their favorite performances / ensembles. First place went to the Nanta drums, second place went to the clarinet ensemble, and third place went to a solo pianist.
In our next update, you will hear from one of the KKOOM volunteers who was at the Christmas party. No matter your donation, we are grateful for your support to fund our biggest holiday parties every year. Thank you for the love you showed this past holiday season for Korean children!
