From many conversations with families, affected children, parents' associations and our own experiences, we have noticed how gladly the families wanted to "just go out" in treatment pauses, or after the end of the therapy, perceive air changes, away from everyday life from the clinic . We have taken up this idea and created a user network of parents' associations all over Germany. The small complex for 3-4 families is located at the Bernsteinsee "in Stuede / Germany.
Around 400 children are treated annually at the nearby clinic locations in Hanover, Braunschweig, Magdeburg, Halle / Saale & Wolfsburg and are still there for after-treatment and examination. Approximately 75% are leukemia patients! Someone who is not affected can not imagine what burden such a family is exposed to. We already have several holiday houses on this beautiful lake where we offer families the opportunity to relax.
The demand for such a facility is given. For the months April-September almost all are booked that we were not aware. Even the months October & November are already occupied by 50%, only interrupted by a number of construction measures concerning disabled paths. For 2017 we have already 19 registrations of families, which means a further booking rate of almost 90%. Based by this reason we need to build the next blockhouse and with all furniture & different equipment the costs are 25,000!
With another blockhouse, we are able to welcome in addition up to 80 families per year. 80 families that we can provide a short break in a difficult time. For many families this time is also the last time together, since many children don't win the fight against cancer. This project has a prominent partner: Our Minister of Economic Affairs Sigmar Gabriel. He too is convinced of the enormous importance about this project.
