Moya Centre Holistic School Sponsorship Update 3

By Notsile Nkambule | Communications Manager

The time to update this project has come. It is the second year of Covid and in as much as we have come far regarding finding a vaccine, we are still behind in its roll out programme. With schools having adjusted to the online and in face hybrid learning platform, there was less anxiety over the school year. However, with the vacinne roll out still focusing on the elderly and frontline workers, learners and teachers have not received their vaccinations. Moya Centre paid all bursary fees this year as well, this was necessary as this support the wages of ancillary staff, school meals and maintenance projects.

Most schools restarted in class learning this year which assisted in quelling the anxiety over students not retaining any information from the syllabus. For both high and secondary schools, radio lessons continued covering a variety of subjects. This year both teachers and students had become more acquainted with elements of online learning, making for an easier roll out. Learners were given two mid-term breaks that accumulated to three days of rest. The second term was set to close on the 29th of August 2021 but unfortunately political and civil unrest ensued in Eswatini in June, further delaying the school calendar. Schools had to be closed to ensure the safety of both teachers and students. This means that students hadn’t gotten a chance to write their examinations before the planned end of term in August. We have yet to hear on when classes can resume and what that will mean for examinations and results.

Learning support for our students has been elevated during this period as most parents can’t afford to provide online learning essentials for their children. The looting and burning that occurred has also exacerbated unemployment levels. Some parents who were able to provide beginning of the year can’t provide anymore.

We are very happy to report that this project has raised 97% of its goal. However, we have to update the project to reflect the current needs for 2021. Now we are looking to Sponsor 25+ new students, which realistically puts us back at the starting point each year. There are 38 students who we are expecting to complete High School this year. We are updating the project to reflect this so as to notify our recurring donors so they can be aware of where their gracious donations are going to. As always, we thank you for your support, it goes a long way in empowering our beneficiaries.
