DIGNITARY PACKS PROJECT
Background and Objective of the Project
Moya is a community- based organization that works with disadvantaged children and families in the
community on a variety of projects and initiatives. Through Moya Peer Supporters, guidance teachers,
and community caregivers, we are able to identify those most in need of the hygiene Packs. This time
we have identified children from our community clubs and afternoon clubs who are living without the
oral hygiene necessities(toothbrushes and toothpastes).
The Need
We have noted a lack of personal hygiene, especially oral hygiene. Most of the kids mentioned that they
don’t have toothbrushes and some mentioned that they share toothbrushes with their siblings, making
it hard for them to maintain the hygiene.
Impact
Poor oral hygiene can lead to various health problems, including tooth decay, gum disease, and bad
breath. Neglecting oral hygiene can have long-term effects on individuals' overall health and confidence.
Lack of access to proper oral hygiene supplies restricts children and families from maintaining a basic
level of oral health.
The Distribution of Oral hygiene packs
We have started the dignitary packs distribution for this year’s last quarter , and out of 468 items we
have distributed 254 oral hygiene packs to our Kids community clubs(114) and afternoon club(140). The
lack of toiletries is an instrument for absenteeism, drop-outs and bullying within our partner schools.
Through community caregivers and afternoon club facilitators, we were able to identify the children in
need of the hygiene packs. Our Oral hygiene packs include toothpaste, toothbrushes and a soap.
Conclusion:
The lack of personal hygiene, particularly oral hygiene, among our Moya children is a pressing concern.
Through our dignitary packs program, we have identified the need for increased provision of oral
hygiene supplies and the importance of education on proper oral hygiene practices. By addressing this
issue, we can contribute to the overall health and well-being of these individuals, empowering them to
lead healthier lives with improved oral health.
