Home-Based Care for Elderly Nigerians

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your kindness and support for elderly Nigerians who are often forgotten and left to manage illness alone. Your generosity brings comfort, care, and reassurance to older people in need.

In Benue State, many elderly men and women live with chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis, and diabetes but cannot afford hospital visits or regular medication. Family support is declining due to poverty and migration, and Nigeria lacks a structured geriatric care system. As a result, many older people remain isolated at home, enduring pain and illness in silence. The “Home-Based Care for 200 Elderly Nigerians” project addresses this gap by delivering basic healthcare and emotional support directly to their homes.

Through this initiative, nurses and trained volunteers will make regular home visits to monitor vital signs, support medication use, and identify health issues early. Beyond medical care, they will provide companionship and emotional support, ensuring that elderly individuals feel seen, heard, and cared for.

The support received so far is appreciated, but more backing is required to fully roll out home visits and reach all 200 elderly beneficiaries. With continued assistance, this project will help older Nigerians live with dignity, reduce avoidable health complications, and demonstrate that compassionate home-based care is possible even in low-resource settings.

Warm regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
