This project will build a day care center in Western parts of Kenya, providing rich comprehensive care to the elderly with compromised immune systems that are susceptible to the effects of Covid 19 and Life limited diseases. The pandemic has brought great confusion that elderly are neglected while services and crucial services are geared towards the productive members of the society. This project will improve health of 700 elders and reunite them with their families with sustainable programs.
Population aging in Kenya has received little consideration from development planners. Although Helpage is working diligently with Kenyan Government to close the gap, the elderly in the grass root communities are not given basic rights of health, decision making with non-governed policies and rights. According to US department of commerce, 5% of Kenya's population is aged 55 and over staying in the communities. This project will affect more than 1,000 elders who reside in grass root communities
RSA provides nutrition assessment, supplement provision, counselling therapies and Home Based Care services to the elderly. The care givers are trained on HBC services, climate change impacts, hygiene & sanitation, feeding styles in elderly, wound dressing and dignity provision. Community Health Volunteers are empowered to master HBC kits and provide community health education. Grass root women are empowered to be resilient to effects of climate change and share with others in adaptability
The project will educate 500 Community Health Volunteers on HBC services 3,000 grass root women will be trained on community adaptability methods in reducing poverty in grass roots Build resilient communities in adaptable innovative initiatives to manage Covid 19, Adult illnesses through knowledge acquisition Establish a centre for counselling and management services The project will provide platforms for grass root women/girls empowerment on different skills and form Accelerators for champion
