BALAJOTHI CENTRE FOR THE DISABLED
HOME FOR 150 DISABLED ORPHAN KIDS AT MYSURU, INDIA (SNEHA GOODU)
PROJECT # 24535 – REPORT DUE DATE : JUNE 12, 2017
Balajothi Centre for the Disabled started out on a very meaningful and need-based project in December 2017 viz. setting up of a residential home at Mysuru (erstwhile Mysore), in the State of Karnataka, India, for disabled underprivileged children. The project cost, including land, buildings and equipment amounts to $ 75000/= The project took off on Oct 12, 2016 on GlobalGiving fund raising platform and has raised $ 468/= todate. A long way to travel before the dream could be realized….!! We at Balajothi are hoping that donors will come together to raise at least another $ 10,000/= by end December 2017 which will enable us to buy an acre of land, to begin with.
‘SNEHA GOODU’ – ‘Nest of love’ ! We decided to choose this title for our project, as we thought it would be akin to a nest where these special children will live in a gated community in a world of friendship and safety all their life.
The concept of a Group Home where children with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities stay along with parent volunteers who will oversee, guide and assist in various rehabilitation activities, and also act as foster parents to those whose parents are no more or are not living on the premises, is unique and the need of the hour. This is so because of the rapidly increasing number of disabled children whose parents are seeking admission into such homes as they are unable to provide the much needed care and attention to their children. Special children need such a protected environment in order to protect them from exploitation of all kinds, to motivate them to reach higher levels of understanding and social advancement, to be less of a burden to their families, to achieve greater progress and improvement and in short to lead better lives. As stated earlier, even at the very beginning of putting up this project, we had stressed on the need to look at this as a worthy and noble cause which deserves to be supported.
The difficult part of this project is to find a plot of land at a good location on the outskirts of Mysuru, with genuine documents, and at a reasonable price. The process of converting the revenue land by the concerned government agencies would follow (discussions have already taken place and acceptance assured). Once the land is acquired we expect faster progress in completing the infrastructural phase as donors would be more willing to donate to something more concrete than an abstract concept. Balajothi eagerly awaits such a day in the very near future.
To date GlobalGiving’s support has been instrumental in raising $ 468/=. We are highly thankful to every kind hearted person who donated to this project. Because of the size of funds required every dollar contributed will help. Your generous donation is very encouraging and also a motivation to others to donate in a similar manner. We understand that while some projects are small and are achievable in a short period of time SNEHAGOODU is one which may take longer time, unless a donor comes forth with a substantial funding, and this is what all of us at Balajothi are praying and longing for ….. !! God bless you all.
