San José has been the Home of dozens of people since 1935. It has played a very important role in protecting the rights of elderly people with fewer economic resources who are victims of abandonment, loneliness, and many other circumstances strictly related to social vulnerability.
Our seniors are a fundamental part of our community: they are leaders, caregivers, and guides. They carry our history and tradition and represent our most rooted values. But in reality, they need us as much as we do.
Today, San José Home keeps serving these people thanks to the work of a professional team made up of psychogerontologists, doctors, psychologists, social workers, and nutritionists, as well as nurses, cooks, volunteers, and many others.
We keep working towards giving people the possibility of a better quality of life at a stage where they are sometimes unable to provide for themselves. At this point in someone´s life, keeping oneself active and energetic can be challenging, especially if the necessary resources are not easily available. For the elderly, getting involved in diverse activities, surrounded by others, has proved to be the key to positive aging.
We try our best to offer residents a wide range of innovative activities and opportunities. On July 11th, Fundación Mapfre, together with 6 volunteers, visited San José Home, to carry out a spa-day for the residents, who were excited to get manicures and try out different hairstyles. Following sanitary protocols, everyone got to share a snack to finish off the evening. It was overall a fun and engaging experience.
On the same note, on May 5th, Fundación Mapfre, together with 8 volunteers, also visited the Home, this time with the aim of fixing and improving the central garden, carrying out cleaning, pruning, and weeding tasks. This type of projects is what keeps San José in optimal conditions and the residents happy.
We wish to keep making San José an ideal and very special Home. Unfortunately, like everything in life, it comes with its own set of challenges.
During the pandemic, our main focus was to isolate the Home to protect the residents and their health from Covid-19. Thanks to those efforts, we have been able to get through 2020 and 2021 with great pride. Now that the virus alert has become more muted, we have been able to shift our focus and undertake other responsibilities. Major repairs and remodeling are to be carried out as soon as possible, which is why we need you more than ever to face this urgent situation.
We hope we can keep counting on you to make sure this Home, our Home, can flourish and bring on happiness and joy.
