Dear GlobalGiving supporters,
Greetings from Chinantla, Oaxaca! Thank you very much for your support.
Thanks to your valuable contributions we recently implemented a new batch of home gardens that directly benefit an additional 10 families. The new batch is different and will have a greater impact based on the way it was implemented. The communities decided to establish their home gardens together in two common areas, becoming true spaces of cooperation and community work.
These home gardens were implemented in the community of Rancho Faisán always using sanitary protocols (use of masks, sanitizing gel, and social distancing). Six planting beds were established with organic fertilizer and each one had a different vegetable planted into it (radish, wild coriander, pumpkin, cucumber, serrano chili, and chives).
Their goal is to share the responsibility and benefits of the backyard, trying to maximize the result of work and cooperation, which becomes an example of the attitude and responsibility that we must assume in new scenarios.
These new home gardens are generating interest among other neighbors who approached us and asked about the activities we were implementing and if they could participate as well. The seeds are planted, and not just literally. We will continue to work to meet the challenges ahead.
In solidarity,
Marco Acevedo, Mexico Program Officer
