From Workshops to Harvests: A Snapshot of Our Recent Activities

By Marco Acevedo | Program Officer, Mexico

Dear GlobalGiving Suporters,

I am delighted to share our recent progress, highlighting the successful development of two training workshops attended by 18 participants. These workshops focused on harnessing biocompounds for pest control, alongside biofertilizers, to bolster soil productivity within the San José Chiltepec community. Furthermore, we integrated primary school students into these educational sessions, fostering a deeper understanding of these sustainable agricultural practices.

In our community garden, we have started the harvest of pumpkins, cucumbers, and cilantro. Notably, we also cultivated and gathered marigold flowers for the traditional Day of the Dead festivities. These vibrant blooms not only serve as ornamental decorations but also act as natural insect repellents.

We are excited to gradually launch the implementation of the next phase, which involves establishing 30 family gardens. These gardens will not only promote community involvement but also encourage the conservation efforts of three ejidos, focusing on the preservation of forests and jungles. These ejidos have actively participated in training programs aimed at monitoring and safeguarding their forested areas. As we look ahead, we remain dedicated to expanding our impact, nurturing both the land and the bonds within our community.

Together, we can continue to cultivate a brighter, more resilient future for all. On behalf of all of us at EcoLogic, thank you for being a part of our team! You are an essential part of our mission, empowering communities and preserving vital ecosystems for generations to come.

We are profoundly grateful for your partnership!

Marco Acevedo, Mexico Program Officer
