When Grandpa Chang was young, he came to Taiwan with the military. Over the years, he lost contact with his family across the strait, and his wife became his only companion. As a result, holidays for the couple were often quiet and a bit lonely.
Hondao has been supporting Grandpa for over a decade, providing ongoing care and companionship through a range of services, including senior outings. During one of our regular check-ins, we found out that the couple had never taken wedding photos. To help them relive their youth and rekindle the joy of their wedding day, we arranged a special photoshoot to fulfill their dream of an ageless wedding portrait.
Now 100 years old, Grandpa Chang spends most of his time in a wheelchair as his health has declined. Yet every time our volunteer visits, he still lights up and cheerfully calls out, “Come! Come, have a seat here!”
To make the Lunar New Year a little warmer for the couple, we take them shopping at the end of the year and share a festive New Year’s Eve dinner with other seniors. During the Lantern Festival, we visit their home with lanterns in hand. Together, we celebrate, share blessings, and welcome the new year with warmth and hope.
