It's Never too Late to Say 'Thank You'

When it comes to our country’s veterans, it’s never too late to say, “Thank you.” This statement is at the heart of what became the nonprofit known as Old Glory Honor Flight.

Old Glory Honor Flight is dedicated to honoring our local veterans, one mission at a time. The organization takes local veterans on a free, one day “tour of honor” to the nation’s capital to see the memorials built in their honor. Old Glory Honor Flight gives veterans an opportunity to heal, find closure, pay their respects to fallen comrades and form new friends . In general, Old Glory sees this as a meaningful way for our community to thank veterans for their service.

The organization is almost entirely volunteer run; Jake’s Network of Hope partnership is able to help the nonprofit through a partnership to support its operations.

“Our partnership with Jake’s helps stretch our limited dollars for supplies and volunteer gifts; being mostly volunteer run, I love that we can give our volunteers a nice gift without worrying too much about our budget,” stated Old Glory Honor Flight Executive Director Diane.

In the coming months, Old Glory Honor Flight plans to utilize its partnership to supply basic hygiene needs to veterans’ homes.

A family member of a veteran that participated in a Old Glory Honor Flight stated, “My dad graduated from High School and immediately enlisted in the army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. His proudest moment was going on the Glory Honor Flight. The day brought him to tears often and it helped him heal.”

Ensuring No Family is Without Basics

The holiday season is an especially difficult time for individuals struggling financially, and we believe that no one should go without basic needs during this time - restoring a sense of self-worth during this should-be celebratory time.

For more than 70 years, Goodfellows of Clintonville has been working to ensure there is “No family without a Christmas in the Clintonville and Marion school districts.”

The Goodfellows of Clintonville and Marion, through an Annual Holiday Distribution, provide food vouchers, winter coats, boots, blankets, personal care items, and toys for the children and families in need in their communities.

The drive begins in early November, when volunteers begin collecting the names of potential recipients. Local churches, service organizations and businesses have contributed everything from toys, mittens and caps to blankets and comforters, with every item contributed, finding a good home.

Many of the same organizations have provided countless volunteer hours towards making the annual event a success by their assistance during distribution week.

In 2020, Goodfellows of Clintonville partnered with Jake’s Network of Hope to help stretch their dollars to get the items needed to support their families.

“I love that we can find many of the items our families need in one place. I love that the people that work at Jake’s have such an abundance of hope and compassion,” Mari, Goodfellows of Clintonville and Marion.

Goodfellows of Clintonville utilizes Jake’s Hope Hub to purchase many of the basic toiletries items including; diapers and wipes for nearly 1,000 families with children in the home during the holiday season.

“Basic personal hygiene can go a long way to positive self image. That can only help families struggling to take a step forward,” Mari, Goodfellows of Clintonville and Marion.

'A Sigh of Relief' For Foster Families'

Foster parents can oftentimes feel overwhelmed by caring for one or multiple children with many needs, including support from past traumas, medical conditions, developmental disabilities and behavior problems that require extra care.

Lincoln's Foster Closet, a 501c3 non-profit based in Kaukauna, WI, is one of Jake’s community partners who is supporting these children and families in the foster care system with basic needs and enrichment programs.

After volunteering at Jake’s with her daughter a few times, Shana learned more about Jake’s and the resources it provides. She and her daughter were inspired to start Lincoln's Foster Closet and partner with Jake’s to provide an elevated experience to foster care families.

Lincoln’s Foster Closet utilizes Jake’s Hope Hub (part of its My Neighbor program) to purchase items such as clothing, personal hygiene, and baby care needs for a fraction of the price.

“Our favorite thing about the hub is the affordability. We get a lot of needs for a fraction of the price and it goes a long way.Saving money and helping families/children which is our favorite thing to do,” Lincoln Foster Closet Founder Shana said.

Our Foster program partners are all working hard to provide foster children with a childhood experience. By partnering with Jake’s Network of Hope, the anxiety around providing the basics for these children can be reduced, which allows energy to be focused on providing a better experience for the child.

“We absolutely love the assortment of items that bring a sigh of relief and joy to our clients. Plus the staff and volunteers are absolutely amazing, helpful and so kind,” stated Shana, “ Jake's Network of Hope is such a life saver, money saver, and a blessing we truly appreciate. We hope Jake's is around for many, many years to come.”
