This project builds resilience among 16 marginalized adolescent girls (10-18) in South India, providing them with rich and vibrant experience of going on an educational tour for 4 days to places of historical & educational importance. We plan to travel by air to New Delhi in January, 2019 and return by train . These annual out of state tours exposes the girls to different cultures, languages and foods where they learn to embrace diversity & tolerance which forms the foundation of resilience.
Most of the girls that we care for, come from difficult family dynamics and having low confidence and poor resilience. Many need more than daily basic necessities apart from healing. Their healing requires for them to see pragmatic encounters to begin to feel that they are special and loved. We do incorporate many little things on a daily basis that doesn't cost much. But, we are unable to do anything extravagant for them that only rich can afford to do such as travelling.
Hope House provides an opportunity for the 16 marginalized girls to have an extraordinary experience of going on an educational tour by a flight. Such experiences forces them to go out of their comfort zone to experience something that they have never imagined of. This improves their confidence levels and when others (peers and teachers) recognize their experiences, they tend to take pride in themselves to believe that they had done something extraordinary which improves resilience.
When marginalized girls grow up with confidence and resilience, they tend to grow up to make independent decisions. Such individuals will build a strong family which in turn will make a strong community and will lead to a strong nation.
