The climate crisis is fueling one of the worst droughts on record across the Horn of Africa, with up to 13 million people in Kenya, Somaliland, and Ethiopia facing severe hunger. ActionAid's emergency teams are working with local partners to provide live-saving food relief, water, and livelihood support to build resilience to climate change.
In Kenya, Somaliland, and Ethiopia, families who rely on farming for their livelihoods are being hardest hit by the prolonged drought, which has led to livestock deaths due to the lack of food and water. Water scarcity is forcing livestock herders, women, and girls to make long and dangerous journeys in soaring temperatures.
ActionAid and its in-country partners are providing critical relief and livelihood support. In Kenya, where teams of local women trained in disaster response are coordinating cash transfers and meals for school children, we aim to reach 300,000 people. In Somaliland, we are providing water and livestock feed, as well as dignity kits for 1,600 women and girls. Our response in Ethiopia will include training for local women to lead the response as well as safe spaces for survivors of GBV.
ActionAid's response is community-driven, women-led, and rights-based, which means your donation today invests in change that lasts. Your gift helps us respond to this crisis and support human rights around the world.
