Challenge

Acid violence targets both men and women in Bangladesh. Incident rates have declined but still continues, with 69% of victims being female and from lower socio-economic statuses; 99% of perpetrators are still men. Affordability for these victims is a real access issue. The required clinical care involves multiple reconstructive surgeries and follow-up treatments. If a patient does not receive this care, they are left with life-long deformities and disabilities (physical and emotional).

Solution

Funding of the ASF Hospital will ensure survivors' increased accessibility to, and availability of, the inclusive and integrated free hospital services. This includes (but not limited to): Conservative/Clinical treatment; Plastic and reconstructive surgery; Physiotherapy; and Psychotherapy care.

Long-Term Impact

The hospital's treatment will enable the 350 survivors' good health, emotional stability and increased confidence so that they may positively re-integrate back into their families and communities. Thus, this will ensure survivors and their families overall chance to live a life of dignity through a self-dependent and productive means.
