The hospital classroom is a specially designed space that offers playful and educational support to the children, particularly for those who face prolonged and recurrent stays. Its primary objective is to promote the emotional well-being of patients by providing a joyful, fun, and distracting environment.
Our challenge is to provide comprehensive care to our hospitalized children, involving mental health and emotional well-being, while also safeguarding childhood and stimulating their cognitive abilities. To achieve this, we require trained human resources, materials, toys, books, musical instruments and technological tools that enable the provision of care, companionship, and the implementation of recreational, social, and cultural activities in an optimal space for the children.
Every day, the classroom offers a variety of activities designed to strengthen the cognitive, emotional, motor, and sensory dimensions of children during their recovery and treatment process in the hospital. The classroom enables children to enjoy everyday play and recreational activities typical of childhood, thereby reducing anxiety, stress, social isolation, depression, and fear. This fosters their overall well-being and enhances their willingness to engage in treatment.
Each year, more than 3,200 children benefit from this initiative. These children come from various cities in the region, and from other departments, the project serves indigenous, and vulnerable populations. It has proven successful in improving their perception of negative feelings related to illness and hospitalization, reducing school dropout rates, increasing socialization, enhancing emotional well-being, and improving their overall mood. These outcomes contribute to a speedy recovery.
