"Never give up" - Juana

By Carolina Ospina | Project Leader

We believe that every story has the power to inspire lives. Today, we want to share with you the story of Juana, a charming and dreamy girl whose eyes radiate light and strength. At just 12 years old, Juana has already visited the Children's Hospital several times, finding in it a safe space where she is cared for and accompanied with love.

Juana's talent is remarkable. She loves to draw and paint, and her room is filled with her own drawings, which adorn and personalize her space. Skilled in crafts, she enjoys watching romantic Korean series and is learning English. Juana lives in Santo Domingo with her mother and father, who spoil her. When she grows up, she dreams of being a doctor, specifically a pulmonologist, driven by her passion for helping people, aspiring to work in a hospital.

Her favorite artist is Karol g, she loves her attitude, music, and of course her colorful hair. She is more afraid of chickens than injections, and tells us that to withstand the pain of the pinprick in the first layer of skin, she helps herself by biting on an object. She is always very brave.

In her free time, Juana makes bracelets adorned with hearts and flowers, but the most beautiful aspect is the messages she writes for each bracelet. She finds that making bracelets helps alleviate her stress and feel more calm, almost therapeutic. She sells them at school for a mere thousand Colombian pesos, spreading good energy and style.

During her days at the hospital, Juana enjoys the daily activities in the hospital classroom. As a crafts enthusiast, it's her favorite part of the day, and she wouldn't miss it for anything. She loves being able to borrow toys and books to entertain herself all day. In the classroom, she has also made friends with whom she feels comfortable, providing each other company and understanding.

Dr. Silvia gifted her a book called "We Are All Geniuses," which Juana particularly enjoyed, as it showcases how ordinary people can achieve awards and recognition.

Juana is in the pediatric nephrology service, she is diagnosed with diabetes. Juana is a very strong and empathetic girl, and she tells all the children who are going through a situation like hers: "You can do everything and never give up."

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, Juana and other children have access to a hospital classroom full of fun and learning. Your donations provide materials, toys, and activities that fuel the imagination of Juana and her hospital companions.

Share Juana's story with your loved ones and join us in inspiring more lives and supporting the growth of our hospital classroom, a place of hope and dreams for our children.
