Monthly Narrative Report - October 2025

Key Achievements

  • Warm and Nutritious Meals: 40 (27 girls and 13 boys) children received three nutritious meals daily, improving health and school attendance.
  • Psycho-Social Support: 17 (7 males and 10 females) professional counselors provided trauma recovery sessions.
  • Life Skills Training: Children were taught hygiene, communication, and basic vocational skills.
  • Family Tracing and Reunification: Efforts were made to reconnect 40 (27 girls and 13 boys) children with extended families where possible.

Education and Nutrition

  • 40 (13 Males and 27 Females) ECD Caregivers Trained: Staff gained skills to address acute malnutrition and support early learning.
  • Nutrition Awareness: 100 caregivers and communities were sensitized on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.
  • Gender-Sensitive Approach: Special focus on girls, who face higher dropout rates and vulnerability.

Challenges Faced

  • Inflation: Rising costs affected the procurement of materials and food.
  • Security Risks: Staff faced threats during field travel; coordination with UNMISS and NGO Forum helped mitigate risks.
  • Gender Inequality: Girls were less likely to enroll and more likely to drop out; targeted interventions were introduced.

Voices of Transformation:

These voices reflect the deep transformation not just in the children’s lives, but also among caregivers and educators, building a foundation for long-term resilience and inclusion.

A Child’s Journey: From Street to School

Among the 200 children reached, many were orphans or separated from families, living in unsafe conditions. With donor support, they now:

  • Sleep in a secure, child-friendly center
  • Receive three hot meals daily
  • Attend basic education classes
  • Receive trauma counseling and life skills training
  • Begin the process of family tracing and reunification

One child, Grace, Age 10, a pupil, shared:
"I used to sleep outside and eat from bins. Now I have a bed, food, and I go to school. I want to be a teacher someday."

Why This Matters

South Sudan faces one of the highest rates of child displacement and street homelessness in East Africa. Through GlobalGiving, the donor contributions to this project have:

  • Reduced child vulnerability to abuse and exploitation
  • Improved nutrition and health outcomes
  • Reconnected children with education and hope
  • Strengthened local systems for child protection and care

These impacts were made possible by donors who believed in the power of education and dignity; their support didn’t just fund a project—it transformed lives.
