The Happiest Half Hour of the Day

By Roth Chanphalkun | Co-Director, M'Lop Tapang

Such a happy time of day!
Such a happy time of day!

Greetings from all of us at M'Lop Tapang in Sihanoukville. We wanted to share a short video with you from lunchtime, when hundreds of children in our education and training programs sit down together for a hot, nutritious meal made possible by your generosity.

Lunchtime at M'Lop Tapang

Watch the video and the first thing you notice is laughter, friends talking over each other, the easy energy of children eating well and enjoying each other's company. This is one of the happiest parts of the day.

Behind that half hour is a kitchen that starts early in the morning and a simple idea. A child who comes to school hungry cannot learn, no matter how good the teacher or how bright the child. So we feed them first. Breakfast when they arrive, a full lunch in the middle of the day, every day that school is open.

What that buys is not just nutrition. It is attendance, because a reliable meal is a reason to show up. It is attention, because a full stomach settles a restless mind. And for families stretched thin by the cost of food, it is one less impossible choice between feeding a child and sending one to school.

Thank you for making sure no child in our programs goes hungry at school. We hope the video brings you a little of the warmth it brings us.

With much gratitude,

Kun
