What was accomplished?
During this reporting period, Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico continued providing consistent access to nutritious meals for children and youth participating in our programs.
Through our Food Program, we served hot meals and snacks to participants attending our Clubs after school hours. For many of them, this meal represents an essential source of nutrition and, in some cases, the last meal of the day.
This effort allowed participants to remain engaged in educational and enrichment activities in a safe and supportive environment.
Who was served?
The program served children and youth between the ages of 6 and 18 across multiple Boys & Girls Clubs locations in Puerto Rico.
Most participants come from underserved communities, where a significant portion of families live below the poverty line and face food insecurity on a regular basis.
What challenges did you face?
One of the main challenges continues to be the rising cost of food and the operational logistics related to meal preparation and distribution.
Additionally, some locations rely on external catering services, which increases costs and adds complexity to ensuring consistent meal availability for all participants.
What did you learn?
We reaffirmed the importance of providing consistent access to nutritious meals as a critical component of supporting children’s overall well-being, academic performance, and emotional stability.
Providing meals not only addresses hunger, but also offers security and support, because a child who is not hungry can learn, focus, and develop better.
What’s next?
Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico will continue strengthening its Food Program through its active initiatives, ensuring that children and youth have access to the nutrition they need.
As part of our efforts to optimize and strengthen our presence on GlobalGiving, we will be consolidating our fundraising efforts into a primary project that continues this mission on a broader scale.
