Many events have taken place in Ukraine over the past month. One of the most important is the liberation of the Kherson city from the occupation of the rusian aggressor and its return under the control of Ukraine. Kherson city and the Kherson region were occupied almost from the first days of the war (about 9 months), people could not even leave their houses and go to a safer place due to shelling of public cars and buses with women and children inside who tried to evacuate to safer cities of Ukraine. After the occupation, the rusian troops left behind many bombed-out buildings, schools, hospitals and buildings of the city's critical infrastructure. Half of the region was left without electricity, but rusian terrorists did not stop shelling the city.
Today, many local people of the Kherson region are forced to evacuate to safer regions of Ukraine, one of which is Odesa. Therefore, the number of people who need our help is growing every day. Thanks to your help and support of the project "Ukrainian people need help" by the support of GlobalGiving, the staff and volunteers of our organization during the 9 months of the war were able to help more than 10,000 families of internally displaced persons and 5,000 families of the local population, providing psycho-social support and humanitarian aid.
In mid-November, the rusian aggressor purposefully began firing missiles across Ukraine at critical infrastructure buildings. The purpose of such attacks is to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people and leave us without electricity, water, heat and Internet. But we are indomitable, we try not only to adapt to life in such conditions, but also to help each other.
The number of requests for warm clothes, thermal clothing, warm blankets, power banks, and small heaters is increasing. The winter of this year for Ukrainians will be the hardest in recent history. Therefore, thanks to your support, we will be able to warm-up many Ukrainian families.
Our large team is very grateful to you for your trust and support! We would like to share with you two stories of internally displaced families who were able to receive timely help.
Story 1
One of the cases in our work is related to a forced migrant from the city Bakhmut, Donetsk region - a lonely pensioner. A 67-year-old man contacted our social worker with a request to receive information about any financial assistance. Mr. Andrii (name changed), told us his difficult story of how he was left homeless after a rocket hit his house. Due to the lack of a roof over his head, he was forced to evacuate urgently - without enough money, without clothes, without documents and under constant fire. When he turned to us, he was in a very difficult emotional state - confused, exhausted, apathetic. First of all, we offered him the help of our psychologist and booked him for an individual consultation and transferred him to a case manager for follow-up. Thanks to our project by GlobalGiving, our social workers created an individual work plan with him - a psychologist, lawyer, socialization, housing and restoration of documents. The lawyer also helped to resolve the issue of payments in connection with the destruction of real estate. We were able to provide him with clothes and shoes, dishes, a blanket and personal hygiene. Case manager also helped him to register for financial help.
We are always glad to see our uncle Andrii, who comes to us regularly just to talk and express his gratitude for help and humane attitude. Always glad to see you, Mr. Andriy!
Story 2
For more than a week, our staff member watched the new neighbors on the floor. At first glance, an ordinary family - mother, father and 3 children, but something again and again drew attention to them. Probably a professional sense helped - it turned out that the house is rented by a family of IDPs from Donetsk. "It is very warm here in October," a woman once said. This is how our colleague accidentally found out that they were forced to move because of fear for their children. Husband Sergey, wife Inna and three children. They arrived 2 months ago and did not receive anything and knew nothing about the work of public organizations. It was by chance that they found out about our organization and our project by GlobalGiving – “Ukrainian people need help”. The first time they came to our oorganization to receive a food, hygiene and household kits. At that time we had humanitarian aid in the form of clothes and shoes. Serhii and Inna got dressed, put on shoes and found clothes for their children too. They said that now they are unemployed, and Serhiy was working as a construction worker in Donetsk, we managed to find him a part-time job (plastering the facade of the house). And Inna arranged to clean the courtyard area. We also directed them to receive financial assistance provided by international donors and they applied. Serhiy and Inna are very grateful for the attention shown to them and the help provided and regularly come to events for children, with Inna to a psychologist. Unfortunately, Serhiy cannot come often, because there is a lot of work!
