Summary

This project is aimed at low-income girls in rural areas who have received a scholarship to study at ICSEF, a university far from their home, and do not have the resources to cover accommodation, care and food. The housing provided to 30 rural women, is located to 5 minutes walking from the campus, Vereda Usatama, in the municipality of Fusagazuga, Colombia. We seek to make it self-sustaining thru fundraising, planting and selling vegetables, catering and event services.

Challenge

Rural women in Colombia face poverty and limited education access. Only 5% receive technical training and 0.4% access professional education. They have a 33% income gap compared to rural men, higher than the urban wage gap. Despite this, brave women pursue degrees at ICSEF to break the cycle of poverty. They have received scholarships, but they lack funds for housing, meals, and expenses while studying away from their families. This project provides 30 women with safe housing, food and school

Solution

El Rocio University Accommodation Center provides housing and support for 30 ICSEF students from different regions of Colombia during their higher education. Donations ensure safe housing, meals, and care for girls studying away from home, addressing the escalating violence against women in the country. The center covers expenses like housing, meals, uniforms, and transportation. It also facilitates the development of soft skills promoting personal and social growth of these women.

Long-Term Impact

With just a semester of study in gastronomy programs, the girl begins to undertake and teach her family how to make products for sale. The family's economy changes drastically because the daughter can opt for a decent, well-paid job with all the social benefits and gains economic autonomy. Family businesses are created. They develop soft skills such as the relationship, communication, commitment, problem solving, adaptability to change, teamwork, order, planning.
