This project will provide direct assistance for elders who are susceptible to physical health challenges; people who are displaced from their jobs; families needing temporary child care solutions; communities suffering due to mental health care disparities; and victims of disasters in Houston and surrounding areas. Assistance will help with immediate relief, supplies, and support as well as long term recovery for families and individuals.
According to the 2022 Social Threats to Aging Well in America report, the top three social barriers to senior health are economic instability, loneliness and food insecurity. Houston, Texas has over 50,000 elder citizens who live alone, and the average social security income per household is a little over $15,000 per year. This project impacts the 50,000 elder citizens who can benefit from financial and people resources to help improve their quality of life.
SHAPE provides temporary financial assistance for elderly and disabled people and those who have been displaced from their jobs; have difficulty acquiring food, medicine, and supplies, and lack financial means to combat threats to their physical and mental health. We provide direct goods such as cleaning supplies and disinfectant, water, food, and other items as needed. SHAPE also provides safe, sanitary child care for displaced students.
We will help 100-200 elders, families and individuals improve their physical quality of life, while also helping them recover mentally from the turmoil caused by social barriers to healthy living.
