How can I read if there are no books? (Indonesia)

Dear Supporters,

At the end of August, we organised a national competition called Aksara Fest. Through this online competition, children from across the whole of Indonesia could participate in three different categories: Fluent Reading, Storytelling, and Poetry. Participants could register either as individuals or through their schools, making it possible for children from many different regions to take part.

The purpose of Aksara Fest was simple: to encourage children to keep learning to read and to develop a love of reading. The response was beyond our expectations. More than 250 children registered for the competition and submitted their videos! It was wonderful to see the effort, creativity, and enthusiasm that each child put into their performance.

Our team was especially encouraged to see so many young children participating in the Fluent Reading category. Many of these children are still developing their reading skills, and it was inspiring to watch them read with confidence. Their participation shows that children are eager to learn when they are given opportunities and encouragement.

To further encourage reading, we also recognised the schools that had the highest number of participants and the best average scores. These schools received a special gift from us: a Book Box filled with books for their students.

Thanks to your support, we were able to provide these Book Boxes and place new reading materials directly into the hands of children. We hope these books will continue to inspire students to read, learn, and explore new ideas long after the competition has ended. As always, thank you for your support and encouragement.
