Supporting an abandoned teenage mother means supporting both the mother and the child depending on her. When a young mother faces poverty, poor health, social isolation and limited opportunities, her child’s wellbeing can also become vulnerable.
F SSIBU Mission Foundation therefore works with communities in Mukono and Eastern Uganda to provide integrated support that addresses the needs of teenage mothers while considering the welfare of their children.
Our services include mentorship, sexual and reproductive health education, vocational skills, computer training, livelihood development, healthcare linkages and child support. Where resources allow, vulnerable children can receive assistance with nutrition, healthcare, medicine and other essential needs.
This integrated approach recognizes that mothers cannot fully pursue empowerment opportunities when their children are facing immediate crises. Supporting children can therefore help create an environment where mothers can participate in training and work toward self-reliance.
Health education is equally important. Young mothers receive information that can help them make informed decisions regarding sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections and future pregnancies.
Economic empowerment provides the longer-term pathway. Training in practical skills can help mothers develop opportunities to earn income and strengthen their households.
Donors make this comprehensive approach possible. Their contributions can support training materials, mentorship sessions, health activities, child welfare interventions and livelihood opportunities.
The impact can extend across generations. A supported mother has greater opportunity to provide for her child, while a supported child has a stronger foundation for growth and development.
By standing with vulnerable mothers in Mukono and Eastern Uganda today, donors can help create stronger households, healthier children and more resilient communities tomorrow.
