For a teenage mother living in a vulnerable community, economic independence can feel like a distant goal. Limited education, lack of vocational skills, unemployment, and childcare responsibilities can make it difficult to secure a stable source of income.
At F SSIBU Mission Foundation, we are working to change this reality by equipping teenage mothers with practical skills that can create pathways toward self-reliance.
Our empowerment initiatives provide opportunities for young mothers to learn skills such as tailoring, hairdressing and hair styling, electrical skills, modern farming, and other livelihood activities. These skills are designed to help participants discover their abilities and identify ways they can generate income.
Donor support is an investment in independence.
When a donor supports vocational training, they help provide more than equipment or training materials. They help create an opportunity for a young mother to acquire a skill that can potentially become a source of income.
Economic empowerment can also strengthen families. A young mother with practical skills and income-generating opportunities may be better positioned to contribute toward food, education, healthcare, and other needs for her child.
Our work also combines skills development with mentorship and sexual and reproductive health education. This holistic approach helps young mothers consider not only their economic future but also their personal wellbeing, parenting responsibilities, and long-term goals.
We believe teenage mothers should have opportunities to become productive members of their communities rather than remaining trapped by poverty and stigma.
With continued donor partnership, we can reach more young mothers, expand vocational training, provide essential equipment, and create stronger pathways toward livelihoods.
Together, we can equip teenage mothers with skills, confidence, and opportunities to build more secure futures for themselves and their children.
