Menstrual stigma can be particularly difficult for teenage mothers who are already experiencing social judgment because of early pregnancy and motherhood. Without supportive conversations and access to appropriate menstrual materials, some young mothers may experience additional barriers to education, skills training, and community participation.
Through Restored Hope for Teenage Mothers, F SSIBU Mission Foundation is creating opportunities for young mothers to access menstrual materials, mentorship, and practical health education.
Our mentorship sessions encourage young mothers to discuss menstruation openly and understand that it is a normal part of reproductive health. We also provide guidance around personal hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, confidence, parenting, and continuing education or skills development.
We recognize that stigma cannot be addressed through young mothers alone. Families and communities have an important role to play. We therefore engage parents and guardians to encourage respectful communication with teenage mothers and reduce the shame that can prevent young women from seeking guidance and support.
Where resources are limited, we also support hygiene needs through water cans and handwashing detergents. These practical interventions complement our broader efforts to help teenage mothers live with greater dignity.
Our ambition is to expand this work to more vulnerable communities and reach teenage mothers who may currently have little access to structured support.
Donors can help us create safe spaces where young mothers are not defined only by the circumstances of their pregnancy, but are supported to discover their abilities, strengthen their confidence, care for their children, and build a better future.
