This project is aiming at strengthening and empowering the position of 3000 deprived rural women and girls with special emphasis on economic independence and improved social status in 25 villages in Sierra Leone. This project will provide sustainable business and entrepreneurship skills to women with grants and scholastic support to tertiary level for girls.
According to the 2015 population census, 253,997 (51%) are women in kono. These women and girls tend to be the most marginalized and vulnerable group in terms of their socio-economic status. They are traditionally discriminated with unpaid care work, neglects of rights, gender based violence, early pregnancy and marriages. Women are rarely seen as capable to owning business, lending voices to decision making have hinder women progress. This project will affect 3000 women and girls.
This project will provide support for deprived rural women to acquire business entrepreneurial skills with seed grants to transform their economic independence and improve their social status. The girls are provided with scholastic support to acquire tertiary education. Women and girls refurbish resource center will be used to transform, do advocacy, awareness raising and collectively promote their self-esteem , aspirations that will change society negative perception of women and girls.
This project will improve the economic well being of 3000 women and girls with sustainable business livelihood; the seed grants will be recycle among several other rural women's group in small scale business enterprises. The tertiary support will provide viable professional human resource that will reduce the barriers to their collective development, increase women involvement in decision making, denounce early marriages and teenage pregnancy and lend their voices to societal positive change .
