295 Surgeries - 2,950 Lives Saved

By Elena Kenesova | Project Leader

In July 2025, a large-scale humane campaign was carried out in the Talgar district of Almaty region, offering free sterilization and castration services for stray animals. Thanks to a partnership with the French animal protection foundation Brigitte Bardot, the initiative achieved remarkable results:

  • A total of 295 sterilization and castration surgeries were performed
  • An estimated 2,950 potential stray animals were prevented from being born next year (based on one animal producing up to 10 offspring annually)
  • All animals were microchipped, tagged, and vaccinated
  • 8 veterinarians from various districts of Almaty region received free training and hands-on experience
  • 27 volunteers participated, including 13 students from the veterinary department of Talgar College

One of the key components of the campaign was the professional development of local veterinarians in humane animal care practices. European specialists shared their expertise, which will now be implemented in other regions of Kazakhstan. This was more than just knowledge transfer — it was the cultivation of a new professional culture rooted in compassion, safety, and sustainable solutions.

This campaign went far beyond medical assistance. It contributed to cleaner streets, healthier communities, and the growth of civic responsibility grounded in kindness. Sterilization and castration are not only humane population control methods — they also reduce aggression, disease transmission, and animal suffering.

The project was made possible through the coordinated efforts of local authorities, businesses, volunteers, and international partners. No personal gain was involved — only a shared commitment to meaningful change.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supports this initiative. Because of you, hundreds of animals now have a chance at a peaceful and safe life. Your contribution is more than a donation — it’s an act of compassion that transforms reality.
