This past quarter, our team remained committed to delivering much-needed aid to communities across Yemen. The country continues to face severe humanitarian challenges, including prolonged conflict, economic instability, and the devastating effects of climate change. Many families struggle daily with food insecurity, malnutrition, and limited access to healthcare and clean water. Despite these hardships, we have focused on providing relief and supporting long-term resilience for those most in need.
Thanks to your generosity, we successfully implemented numerous projects from October to December 2024, addressing urgent needs and empowering communities to build a more stable future.
Combating Malnutrition
Malnutrition remains one of the most severe challenges in Yemen, particularly for children. Limited access to nutritious food and basic healthcare has left millions vulnerable to malnutrition, a condition that can hinder children’s growth, affect their ability to learn, and impact their well-being for a lifetime. Over 2.25 million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition, with severe cases requiring urgent intervention.
This quarter, we continued our one-year Severe Malnutrition Project at Al-Buraiqah Health Center in Aden Governorate and provided direct nutritional support to 600 children across the following regions:
At Al-Buraiqah Health Center, our project achieved a 75.7% recovery rate, with ongoing efforts to reduce the dropout rate and mortality rate. Over the past quarter, we distributed 240 hygiene kits to discharged children and provided nutritious food at discharge to support their continued recovery at home.
To ensure long-term improvements, we conducted caregiver training sessions to help families understand proper nutrition and ways to prevent relapses. Additionally, we made the center more welcoming for children by decorating the space to create a more supportive, comfortable environment during treatment. These efforts contribute to better health outcomes and help sustain recovery for children in need.
Orphan Sponsorship Program
The crisis in Yemen has left at least one million children orphaned, many of whom lack basic necessities such as food, shelter, and access to education. Without stable support, these children face a heightened risk of malnutrition, illness, and exploitation. Through our Orphan Sponsorship Program, we continued to provide 374 orphans across various governorates with financial assistance throughout the quarter, helping to cover housing, food, clothing, and education.
Emergency Food Assistance
Yemen’s ongoing economic crisis, combined with severe flooding, has further deepened food insecurity across the country. To address urgent hunger needs, we distributed emergency food baskets to vulnerable families in flood-affected areas:
A total of 2520 people benefited from the emergency food assistance.
Emergency Medical Assistance
Access to healthcare remains extremely limited in Yemen, leaving many individuals without critical medical treatment. This quarter, we provided lifesaving medical support for six urgent cases.
Cash Assistance for Families in Crisis
Rising inflation and widespread poverty have placed overwhelming financial pressure on many families. To provide relief, we distributed cash assistance to 36 families in dire need. These funds helped recipients secure basic necessities such as food, medicine, and shelter.
Expanding Access to Clean Water
Millions of Yemenis continue to suffer from water scarcity and contamination, increasing the risk of diseases such as cholera and dysentery. To help address this crisis, we distributed water filters and barrels to families in need, benefiting a total 22,770 people.
Completion of the Water Well Project
In December, the Water Well Project in Hodeidah was completed, ensuring sustainable access to clean water in an area where waterborne diseases are prevalent. The well is now fully operational, providing much-needed relief to the community.
Supporting Livelihoods for Families in Need
Economic hardship has left millions of Yemeni families struggling to survive. Many, particularly women-led households, have few opportunities for financial independence. Our income-generation projects provide sustainable solutions, helping families build livelihoods and reduce long-term dependence on aid.
Winter Clothing Distribution
As temperatures dropped, families across Yemen faced additional hardships due to a lack of adequate winter clothing. To help vulnerable communities stay warm, we launched a Winter Clothing Project:
Harnessing Sustainable Energy with Solar Water Heaters
With fuel shortages and economic struggles making energy access difficult, we implemented a Solar Water Heater Project to provide families with cost-effective and sustainable heating solutions:
A total of 999 people benefited from this project.
Standing Together for Yemen’s Future
The humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains dire, with millions in urgent need of support. As we continue our efforts, we remain committed to delivering emergency aid, expanding access to crucial resources, and empowering families through sustainable livelihood programs.
None of this would be possible without your generosity. Your support has transformed lives, and with your continued commitment, we can reach even more communities in need.
With sincere gratitude,
Yemen Relief & Reconstruction Foundation
