Project Report | Jul 30, 2025
Apr - Jun 2025 Accomplishments

By Ina Lee | Communications Director

In the second quarter of 2025, Yemen continued to experience severe insecurity and deepening economic hardship. The situation remains extremely dire. After more than a decade of conflict and instability, over 19 million people still require urgent humanitarian assistance—including food, healthcare, shelter, and access to clean water. Nearly half of the population is suffering from acute hunger, and many communities lack adequate access to safe drinking water. Alarmingly, more than 65% of children under the age of five are experiencing severe malnutrition, significantly affecting their health and development.

Projects Implemented in the Second Quarter of 2025

  • 26 Projects
  • 545,926 Beneficiaries
  • 14 Governorates

Increasing the Recovery Rate for Children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM)

Malnutrition among children in Yemen continues to represent a severe humanitarian crisis. Reports indicate that half of all children under the age of five are suffering from malnutrition—an unprecedented global rate. This crisis is driven not only by prolonged conflict and economic collapse but also by a more than 300% increase in food prices over the past decade.

During the second quarter of 2025, we provided monthly assistance over a six-month period to 600 children across various governorates. We also reached conflict-affected areas to deliver our nutrition program in military zones where health services are typically unavailable.

These villages are densely populated, with a high number of malnourished children. After coordinating with local authorities, our team entered these areas and delivered lifesaving nutrition services to children suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM). We also engaged with families to raise awareness about the long-term health risks of SAM in early childhood.

In just three months, we treated 600 children suffering from SAM:

  • Al Hudaydah – Hays District: 200 children treated
  • Al Mahwit – Al Mahwit City: 150 children treated
  • Ibb – Kahlan District: 150 children treated
  • Al Jawf – Al-Dhalfan & Al-Awlah Districts: 100 children treated

Machinery Maintenance and Activation of the Sewing and Handicrafts Department

In response to the ongoing economic challenges in Yemen, we continue our efforts to support the most vulnerable families through targeted, sustainable projects. One of our key initiatives this quarter was the Machinery Maintenance and Activation Project for the Sewing and Handicrafts Department at the Association for the Development of Persons with Special Needs in the Capital Secretariat of Sana’a.

This project aimed to revitalize the department by restoring its operational capacity and enabling it to serve individuals with disabilities more effectively. To achieve this, we focused on the following priorities:

  • Rehabilitate and activate the sewing department by maintaining and upgrading equipment, providing essential materials and tools, training staff, and improving internal processes.
  • Enhance the quality of products and services by introducing modern techniques and ensuring consistent, high-quality output.
  • Enhance productivity through optimized workflow organization and streamlined operations.
  • Promote a safe and healthy working environment by keeping machines in good condition and ensuring a clean, orderly workspace.

Thanks to this initiative, 285 individuals benefited from improved services and training opportunities—helping them gain skills, generate income, and live with greater dignity and independence.

Economic Empowerment Project: Sewing Machine Distribution

As part of our continued efforts to promote economic empowerment and strengthen the role of women in Yemeni society, we launched a project to provide sewing machines and basic training to selected women across the Capital Secretariat of Sana’a. The goal of this initiative is to support sustainable income generation and long-term self-reliance.

We selected participants through a comprehensive assessment of their socioeconomic conditions to ensure the support reached women most in need. Five sewing machines were distributed across several districts, accompanied by hands-on training sessions in basic sewing techniques and clothing design. Ongoing follow-up was also provided to help maintain production quality and encourage continuous skill development.

This project is expected to:

  • Provide a sustainable source of income for participating women
  • Promote women’s economic and professional independence
  • Foster creativity, self-reliance, and entrepreneurial growth
  • Improve the living standards of female-headed households

A total of 45 women directly benefited from this initiative.

Economic Empowerment Project: Pastry Bakery Initiative

As part of our broader efforts to promote economic empowerment and improve the living conditions of vulnerable communities, we supported five families facing extreme economic hardship. Each family had lost its primary breadwinner and lacked a stable source of income.

Our team conducted thorough assessments to evaluate their needs and confirm their eligibility for the program. Based on the findings, we launched a small-scale pastry bakery project designed to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for these families.

Support provided included:

  • Supplying an electric oven and essential baking equipment
  • Hands-on training in pastry production and basic marketing
  • Provision of raw materials such as flour, oil, yeast, and other key ingredients
  • Ongoing follow-up to ensure consistent output and maintain product quality

This initiative not only generated income for the families involved but also fostered self-reliance and laid the groundwork for small-business growth within their communities.

Support for the National Central Public Health Laboratory with Medical Reagents

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen Yemen’s healthcare system, we provided critical support to the National Central Public Health Laboratory in the Capital Secretariat of Sana’a. This laboratory plays a vital role in serving patients from multiple governorates and was facing urgent shortages of essential diagnostic supplies.

To help address these gaps, we supplied a set of high-quality medical laboratory reagents—responding to immediate operational needs amid Yemen’s continued health and economic crises.

Our support included:

  • Supplying high-quality reagents used in essential diagnostic testing
  • Addressing critical shortages in materials needed for core laboratory functions
  • Enhancing the lab’s capacity to detect and respond to epidemic and infectious diseases

The goal of this project is to expand and improve diagnostic laboratory services, strengthen their alignment with public health priorities, and ensure reliable testing capacity at the national level. It also supports the lab’s essential role in epidemiological surveillance and early disease detection, helping to protect public health more broadly.

Classroom Construction Project

This project aims to provide educational opportunities for children living in difficult conditions—whether due to poverty, conflict, or displacement.

In response to the severe educational challenges in remote areas of Yemen, we launched a classroom construction initiative in a village in Al-Matima District, Al-Jawf Governorate. Children in this region face a critical lack of educational infrastructure and a shortage of qualified teachers, leaving many without access to formal schooling.

To address this, we implemented the project in several integrated phases:

  • Construction of a full classroom: A classroom was built using locally appropriate materials and design, ensuring safety, durability, and proper ventilation.
  • Furnishing and equipping the classroom: Tables, chairs, a chalkboard, and essential learning materials were provided to create a functional and engaging learning environment.
  • Distribution of school textbooks: Approved schoolbooks and curricula were distributed to all enrolled students.
  • Provision of a qualified teacher: A trained teacher was hired to deliver instruction and monitor students’ academic progress.
  • Enrollment of more than 100 students: Over 100 boys and girls from the village—previously excluded from formal education—are now attending school.

Orphan Sponsorship Program

Amid Yemen’s ongoing humanitarian crisis, the growing number of orphaned children has become one of the most urgent concerns. Recent estimates place the number of orphans in the country at approximately 1.3 million—many of whom lack access to necessities, education, and emotional support.

Through our Orphan Sponsorship Program, we provide ongoing financial and social support to help orphaned children live with dignity and stability. The program is designed to improve their quality of life while supporting the families or caregivers who look after them.

Our goal is to offer both material assistance—covering food, clothing, healthcare, and education—and emotional support, ensuring that every child feels cared for and seen.

To date, we have sponsored 534 orphans across 14 governorates.

Udhiyah Project

Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, we carried out the Udhiyah (Qurbani) Distribution Project during the blessed days of Eid al-Adha—an effort rooted in the values of generosity, compassion, and solidarity central to our Islamic faith.

This initiative was designed not only to bring joy to vulnerable families during Eid but also to offer comfort and dignity to those displaced or struggling to meet even their most basic needs.

Through this project, we aimed to:

  • Strengthen social solidarity and compassion within communities
  • Alleviate the suffering of impoverished and affected families
  • Distribute Qurbani meat in a dignified manner that respects beneficiaries' circumstances
  • Instill a sense of belonging, connection, and unity among community members

More than just a meat distribution effort, this project served as a humanitarian expression of Eid’s true spirit—grounded in compassion, dignity, and shared sacrifice.

Electric Power Generators Project

Access to electricity is a basic necessity that significantly improves the quality of life, supports health and safety, and enables sustainable development. However, many vulnerable families in Yemen continue to live without reliable access to this essential service, making daily life even more challenging.

To address this urgent need, we distributed 20 electric power generators to families living in underserved areas. This initiative was designed to bring meaningful and lasting improvements to their living conditions.

The primary objective of the project was to improve the quality of life for the poorest and most vulnerable households by enabling them to use essential electrical appliances. With access to lighting, refrigerators, and fans, families are now better equipped to create a safer, healthier, and more comfortable home environment.

In total, 180 individuals directly benefited from this project.

Financial and Medical Assistance Project

This project aims to provide urgent financial and medical support to poor and displaced families in order to help them meet their essential needs.

In response to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Yemen, we have continued our efforts to reach families affected by the ongoing conflict and deteriorating economic conditions. Our goal is to improve the living and health conditions of the most vulnerable communities through targeted, responsive assistance.

As part of this initiative, we distributed direct cash assistance to families in need, helping them cover the costs of food, education, and healthcare. This support was provided across several governorates, including the Capital Municipality and Al-Bayda, and benefited a total of 322 individuals.

This financial and medical assistance program serves as a model for effective, people-centered humanitarian intervention. With continued support and collaboration, we can extend our reach and improve the lives of even more Yemeni families.

Looking Ahead

The second quarter of 2025 was marked by critical challenges, but also by meaningful progress made possible through strong partnerships and the unwavering support of our donors. As we move forward, we remain committed to delivering lifesaving aid, restoring livelihoods, and building resilience in the communities that need it most. Together, we can continue to bring hope, dignity, and tangible change to the lives of vulnerable families across Yemen.
