Fourth Quarter 2025 Program Progress Report

By Ina Lee | Communications Director

Executive Summary

During the fourth quarter of 2025, we continued implementing humanitarian and recovery programs across Yemen amid ongoing conflict, economic decline, and weakened public services. The humanitarian situation remained severe, with widespread food insecurity, limited access to healthcare, and high levels of displacement affecting millions of people.

Throughout the reporting period, we implemented 30 projects across 14 governorates, reaching 178,072 individuals through a combination of life-saving assistance and longer-term support. Our work addressed urgent needs in nutrition, health, winter protection, and child welfare, while also supporting household resilience through economic empowerment and direct assistance.

This report provides detailed progress updates on all programs implemented during the quarter, reflecting activities carried out, populations reached, and outcomes observed during the reporting period.

Humanitarian Context

Yemen continues to face one of the most complex humanitarian crises globally. Years of conflict have led to the collapse of essential infrastructure and public services, including healthcare, education, and water systems. More than two-thirds of the population are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance, and over 80% rely on humanitarian aid to survive. Food insecurity, malnutrition, preventable disease, and poverty remain widespread, affecting millions of people across the country.

Children are among the most severely impacted, with hundreds of thousands of children under five suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Displaced families, orphans, and households without stable income continue to face heightened vulnerability. In this environment, our approach during the fourth quarter focused on protecting lives, meeting immediate needs, and supporting families in maintaining a minimum level of stability.

Program Updates

A. Nutrition and Child Health - Severe Acute Malnutrition Treatment Program

Severe acute malnutrition remains one of the most critical health challenges affecting children under five in Yemen. Limited access to food, weakened healthcare services, and prolonged economic hardship continue to place young children at high risk.

During the fourth quarter, we treated 600 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition through a structured therapeutic feeding program. Children received ready-to-use therapeutic food over a six-month period, combined with regular medical follow-up and monitoring of recovery indicators, including weight and mid-upper arm circumference.

The program was implemented in Al-Hudaydah, Hajjah, Al-Mahwit, and Al-Jawf, governorates with high malnutrition prevalence and limited health service coverage. Caregivers were provided with guidance on child feeding, hygiene, and basic health practices to support sustained recovery.

Monitoring and follow-up indicated measurable improvements in children’s nutritional status and overall health. The program contributed to reducing mortality risk and preventing long-term physical and developmental complications.

B. Economic Empowerment - Livestock (Sheep Farming) Program

Ongoing economic collapse and unemployment have severely limited household coping capacity across Yemen. To address this, we continued implementing our livestock-based economic empowerment program during the reporting period.

The program supported thousands of vulnerable households across several governorates by providing sheep along with training in livestock care, breeding practices, basic animal health, and small-scale income management. Targeted households included women-headed families, unemployed individuals, and households with no stable source of income.

Beneficiaries used livestock products for household consumption and income generation through milk production and livestock sales. Many households reported improved food security, increased income, and reduced reliance on emergency assistance.

Field monitoring confirmed that participating households demonstrated improved economic stability and greater capacity to meet basic needs.

C. Winter Clothing and Seasonal Protection Program

Winter conditions place additional strain on families already affected by poverty and displacement. Inadequate shelter, lack of heating, and limited access to warm clothing increase the risk of illness, particularly among children and older adults.

During the fourth quarter, we distributed winter jackets and blankets to 9,110 families across 10 governorates and 31 districts. Targeting prioritized displaced families, households with young children, elderly members, and those living in exposed or informal shelters.

Distributions were coordinated with community representatives to ensure appropriate targeting. The assistance helped reduce cold-related health risks and improved household comfort during the winter season.

D. Orphan Sponsorship Program

The humanitarian crisis has resulted in a significant number of orphaned children across Yemen, many of whom face heightened risks of poverty, school dropout, and exploitation.

During the reporting period, we continued sponsoring 674 orphaned children, including 371 girls and 303 boys, across multiple governorates. Sponsorship support covered food, clothing, healthcare, education expenses, and psychosocial support.

Caregivers reported reduced financial pressure and improved household stability. Sponsored children demonstrated improved school attendance, academic engagement, and overall well-being.

The orphan sponsorship program remains a central component of our efforts to protect children and support their continued education and development.

E. Health System Support - Electrical Energy for Health Centers

Reliable electricity is essential for healthcare delivery, particularly for maternal, child, and emergency services. Many health facilities in Yemen experience frequent power outages that disrupt operations and compromise patient safety.

During the fourth quarter, we supplied generators to health centers in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, enabling uninterrupted power for vaccine refrigeration, delivery rooms, emergency care, and routine medical services.

Health staff reported improved service continuity and safer operating conditions, particularly for mothers and newborns. This intervention strengthened the operational capacity of health facilities serving vulnerable communities.

F. Medical Assistance Program

High healthcare costs and limited household income continue to prevent many families from accessing necessary medical care.

During the reporting period, we provided medical assistance to vulnerable families, covering the costs of consultations, treatments, and essential medications. Priority was given to displaced households, people with chronic illnesses, and families without stable income.

Medical assistance enabled beneficiaries to receive timely care and reduced health-related financial burdens.

G. Financial (Cash) Assistance Program

Cash assistance remains an important tool for supporting households facing immediate needs.

During the fourth quarter, we distributed financial assistance to poor and displaced families to support food purchases, education costs, healthcare expenses, and other essential needs. Beneficiaries reported that cash assistance helped stabilize household conditions and reduced reliance on harmful coping strategies.

H. Food Support and Aqiqah Distributions

Through donor-supported Aqiqah offerings, we distributed meat to poor and displaced families during the reporting period. These distributions improved dietary diversity and provided an important source of protein for households with limited food access.

In addition to nutritional benefits, the distributions carried cultural and social significance for recipient families.

Monitoring, Accountability, and Implementation

Across all programs, implementation was supported by community-based targeting, beneficiary verification, and coordination with local authorities and service providers. Our teams conducted field visits, collected beneficiary feedback, and documented activities to ensure accountability and effective use of resources.

Closing Remarks

During the fourth quarter of 2025, continued donor support enabled us to deliver essential assistance across multiple sectors, protect vulnerable populations, and support households working to rebuild stability under extremely difficult conditions.

We remain deeply grateful to all supporters whose trust and generosity made this work possible. Their continued support allows us to sustain operations and respond to urgent needs across Yemen.
