Supporting Families Across Yemen: Q3 2026

From July through September 2026, we continued supporting children and families across Yemen through nutrition, healthcare, education, orphan sponsorship and livelihood programs. During the quarter, our 17 projects reached 207,907 people across 14 governorates.

Every family faces different challenges. Some parents are trying to help a child recover from malnutrition, while others are struggling to keep their children in school or earn enough to cover daily expenses. Our work this quarter focused on meeting these needs while helping families build greater stability.

Helping Young Children Recover from Malnutrition

For families already struggling to afford food, caring for a malnourished child can be especially difficult. Many cannot afford the nutritional supplements needed for recovery.

This quarter, we provided nutritional support to 700 children across six districts in Al-Hudaydah, Taiz and Al-Jawf. This included 400 children in Al-Hudaydah and 150 each in Taiz and Al-Jawf. Along with therapeutic nutritional supplies, we provided guidance to help parents care for their children throughout recovery.

Waad's Return to Strength

Waad lives with her family in Taiz. She was suffering from severe acute malnutrition, and her family could not afford the nutritional supplements she needed.

Through our nutrition program, Waad received therapeutic milk and other supplements. Our medical team also guided her mother on how to use them and care for Waad during her recovery.

Over the following months, Waad began gaining weight and becoming more active. Her physical condition gradually improved, bringing much-needed relief to her family.

Supporting Orphans and Their Families

When a parent dies, families often lose not only a loved one but also an important source of income. For many children, this can mean leaving school or going without basic necessities.

Through our orphan sponsorship program, we continued providing monthly assistance to 678 children across 14 governorates. The support helps families pay for food, education and healthcare. We also offered counseling and recreational activities to help children and caregivers cope with loss.

Ammar Goes Back to School

Ammar stopped attending school after his father died. His mother was raising the family on a small income from selling food. With medical expenses and very little money for household necessities, the family was struggling to get by.

Ammar began working at a local fish market to help support his family.

Through our sponsorship program, the family received monthly assistance that helped them buy food and cover medical expenses. With some of the financial pressure eased, Ammar was able to leave the fish market and return to school.

Helping Families Build a Source of Income

Alongside emergency relief, we continued helping families find practical ways to support themselves.

During the quarter, we distributed 420 sheep with fodder across six governorates, benefiting 1,120 people. By raising the animals, families have an opportunity to generate income through breeding and livestock production.

One recipient was Umm Mohammed, a widow raising her family without a steady income. She received three sheep, one ram and two ewes. She is now caring for the animals and hopes they will eventually provide a more dependable source of income for her family.

We also provided eight sewing machines to eight households in Sana'a, benefiting 64 people. For women who already have sewing skills but lack the necessary equipment, a sewing machine offers a way to earn money from home.

Hind Starts Sewing Again

Hind and her family were displaced from Taiz by the war. To support her family, she took cleaning jobs whenever she could find them.

Hind already knew how to sew, and her daughter was interested in fashion design. But without a sewing machine, they had no way to put those skills to use.

After receiving a machine through our program, Hind began making children's dresses. She can now earn income using a skill she already has, giving her family another way to meet its daily expenses.

Keeping Health Centers Running During Power Outages

Reliable electricity is essential for healthcare. In Al-Hudaydah, power outages can disrupt vaccine refrigeration, maternity services and emergency treatment, making it difficult for medical teams to provide consistent care.

To help address this problem, we supplied six generators to six health centers in Bayt Al-Faqih, Al-Jarrahi and Zabid districts. These facilities serve communities with a combined population of 200,286 people.

The generators provide backup electricity so healthcare workers can continue operating essential equipment and caring for patients when the regular power supply fails.

Helping Children Learn

For families struggling to afford food and other necessities, even a school bag or a set of notebooks can be difficult to purchase.

This quarter, we distributed 3,014 school bags and supplies to students across several governorates, helping children start the school term with the materials they need.

We also supported three classrooms in Raymah Governorate, serving 200 students. The classrooms provide a better learning environment, and we supplied schoolbooks for the children.

A New School Bag for Basma

Basma lives with her family in Al-Mahwit Governorate. Her family has very little money, and her parents take whatever work they can find.

Basma had been carrying her school supplies in a homemade bag, which led to teasing from other children.

When she received a new school bag filled with notebooks and pens, she was delighted. She could finally carry her school supplies like her classmates, without worrying about being singled out for her old bag.

Responding to Urgent Family Needs

Not every family needs the same kind of assistance. Sometimes, the most immediate concern is finding enough money for food, medicine, shelter or education.

During the quarter, we provided financial assistance benefiting 101 people across three governorates, helping families cover urgent expenses.

Among those supported was Azhar, a young woman who was determined to continue her education despite financial hardship.

With financial assistance, Azhar was able to continue her studies and complete her university degree. She now hopes to pursue a master's degree.

Her determination and academic achievements are a reminder of how important it is to help students continue their education when financial circumstances stand in their way.

Thank You for Your Continued Support

We are grateful to everyone who has supported Humanitarian Relief for Yemen through GlobalGiving.

Your generosity helps us respond to the different challenges facing children and families across Yemen, whether that means providing nutritional care, helping a child return to school or giving a family the resources to earn a living.

Thank you for continuing to make this work possible.

With gratitude,
