Dear Supporter,
Your continued support of our Build for Education in Humla project helps to provide education for children in the remote Himalayas.
Many government schools in Humla are not fit for purpose. This project will restore 16 schools to provide good teaching facilities for over 2600 pupils and 112 teaching staff. A prime focus will be to ensure that girls receive similar choices to boys and raise their educational standards and life chances.
Shree Kot Higher Secondary School is located in Sarkegad rural municipality, Humla District, Karnali Province. The distance from Simikot to Kot Higher Secondary School is very (maybe 110 km) far. A school roll of 390 pupils and offers 6th-12th grade education. We have provided furniture for the school.
Shree Suryatara Basic School is located in Sarkegad Rural municipality of Humla District, Karnali province, with a school roll of 170 pupils and offers education up to 5th grade. A boundary fence for the school which seemed much necessary for the school for safety but also to prevent cattle to come into the compound. Materials such as wire net, iron poles and cement was brought in all the way from Surkhet and transported up by truck to Salisalla. From Salisalla the materials were transported by donkeys to the Suryatara school and started the work. The required work took about 3 weeks to complete.
Shree Sundarbhumi Prathamik School is located in Sarkegad Rural Municipality, Humla District, Karnali Province. About 55 km from Simikot, this Unapani village is very difficult to trek due to its tough terrain. A school roll of 71 pupils and offers education up to 4th grade. We have repaired and rebuilt the two-room building. Materials were brought in from Surkhet from where they were loaded onto trucks. It took five days to reach Salisalla in Humla from Surkhet. After that the materials were transported by donkeys to the Sundarbhumi school.
It takes three days to walk from Simikot to Soyambhu Secondary School upper Barai in Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla District, Karnali province. Barai village is located at a distance of about maybe 65 km. Due to the bad geography, it is very difficult and hot to travel on foot. This school now teaches up to 8th grade. Children of 285 houses study in this school. There was a hole in the school roof and the wood was rotten. We supplied new wood, GI sheets for the roof, new windows, doors, walls, painting, etc. which took about 1 month.
Shree Panchamukhi Himal Aadharbhut School is located in Simikot Rural Municipality of Humla District, Karnali province. This school is located at a distance of about 25 km from Simikot and was initially constructed by The Nepal Trust with support from Stichting Nepal in 2012-13. This school is located in Thehe village. A school roll of approx 233 pupils. The floor sealing of all class rooms was needing repaired, windows and doors needed repairing and the building required new painting. Materials were already brought from Surkhet to Salisalla along with materials of the other schools. It was very difficult to get goods from Salisalla to Panchamukhi school in Thehe, due to geographical difficulty and distance. After many attempts, the materials were finally transported by donkeys to the school. Work was delayed due to heavy snowfall and could only start after that. The works took about 1 month to complete and incl. slope plastering on the balcony, floor sealing inside the class rooms, office room, storage room, etc. Besides this windows and doors were repaired and repainted.

The project will now be put on hold, due to a restructuring of our UK Board and a regrouping of working with international partners.
Namaste,
Anna.
