Hungerfree in Ramadan - food for families in need

We're back today with an update on this year's Ramadan emergency aid: We're glad to tell you that the emergency aid was successfully implemented and families in Turkey and Afghanistan were provided with food parcels! :)

Thanks to your great support, we were able to reach 150 families in Turkey - mainly Syrian refugees - with this year's Ramadan emergency aid.

The food parcels for the families that Maram - our local partner organization - distributed contain 3kg bulgur, 6kg lentils, 3kg rice, 3kg pasta, 2.4kg tomato paste, 1kg tea, 3kg sugar, 5l oil, 3l juice and 2kg dates.

The Ramadan emergency aid in Turkey reached around 934 people and was aimed in particular at vulnerable population groups such as women, children under the age of 5 and the elderly.

Thanks to your generous donations from our Ramadan emergency relief, we were also able to carry out a humanitarian distribution in Herat with the surplus. Due to the devastating earthquakes in October 2023 and the harsh winter, the situation there remains catastrophic. The snowfall and cold weather have severely affected the lives of families affected by the earthquake, especially those living in tents. Our local partner organization OHW (Organization for Human Welfare) has distributed packages of food (50kg flour, 5l oil, 7kg beans, 2kg salt and 10kg rice) and cash amounting to the equivalent of around €52 to 109 families. 

Construction update:  

In our last update at the end of January, we reported that our partners are currently identifying the families and individuals most in need of support. Families in particular need are now being supported in the form of accommodation and cash. These include female-headed households, people with disabilities and chronic illnesses and vulnerable elderly people.  

The building plots of the seven selected villages with the most urgent needs have already been prepared and the necessary materials procured. Construction work is in full swing. Measures such as the preparation of shelters and the shelters for the foundation have already been completed. The next step is to lay the foundations for the stone masonry - the masonry work has already been finalized on 25 shelters.  

We will continue to keep you up to date on the progress of the construction work. Aftershocks are still being felt in the region and the winter break is only just over.
